Fascination Projects
The fascination projects over the last few classes have been very enjoyable to listen to. I think it brought up some interesting conversations and made me also think about things I have never thought about before. I think the idea of promoting bad people in films and how it affects the viewer psychologically was an interesting topic.
One of the people that was brought up in the presentation was Jefferey Dahmer and the new series that is on Netflix about him. When this first came out people started to post a lot on TikTok about the new series and people were starting to become obsessed with the Jefferey Dahmer character and began to fall in love and act like him. There were a lot of people dressing up as him for Halloween or were just acting like him for fun. It is actually sad that people go this far and become fans of people who did horrible things.
Another example that is older but a lot of people did the same, was the Narcos series. Many people again on TikTok would post themselves acting like Pablo Escobar or dressing up as him for Halloween. People for some reason thought he was funny or acted in a way that came off as being cool.
I don't think that I will ever understand why people idolize those who have done sick unimaginable things. I also think it is interesting that people will watch a recreation with actors rather than the documentaries that have actual footage or recordings from the events. I would think that documentaries would be more accurate rather than trying to entertain. I also wonder if there will ever be a line drawn when it comes to these sorts of series or films.
